Julianna Margulies reported that when she read the last episode of The Good Wife, she didn’t know exactly how she felt about it at first. I now know why.

I did love that not every storyline was wrapped up and that it wasn’t about giving each character a happy ending. Here’s a quick run down of what happened. We started and ended with Peter’s trial. Let’s start with the best news.

  • Josh Charles returned. Sure, Alicia is envisioning talking to him, but I forgot how incredible their chemistry was. I thought I was over Will’s death, but now I’m not so sure.
  • Sutton Foster made a brief cameo as a witness. Seems like the producers had to get just one more Broadway star into the show’s mix.
  • Peter learns that his political career is over and Eli is banking on Alicia. At least Peter apologized to Eli for replacing him during the presidential campaign.
  • The case turned on the bullets that the prosecution claimed Peter stole. They found the bullets, but it turned out that the bullets where damning after all. Worse, Alicia ignored Diane’s plea not to call her husband to the stand, where it’s revealed he’s been having an affair. In the end, Diane slaps Alicia, hard, and I don’t blame her.
  • Grace decides to take a year off from college to be with her dad while he’s in prison. Look Alicia – this is what you taught your kids by sticking with a cheating husband!
  • Alicia finally realizes she does want Jason, even though she’ll always love Will. But he’s not there or answering his phone when she goes looking.

She finishes the final hour once again supporting Peter as he announced his resignation (he got a year’s probation) at the podium, but then she walk away from him. She walked into a world where she doesn’t have a relationship and perhaps not even a job. I didn’t want her to end by throwing herself in Jason’s arms – that would mean that she could only survive with a guy in her life. But her future remained quite vague.

What did you think of how it ended? Were you glad to see Josh Charles return? Will there be a hole in your Sunday viewing for years to come? Give us your TwoCents…
