Welcome to the first ever Cougar Town R&R! We are so happy to have you be joining us on our journey as we follow Jules and her crazy friends and family. Hopefully you’ve read the recap of the season up until now, so with that, here we go!

Jules and Ellie are having their typical BFF banter when Andy comes in and Jules asks Andy to check on Bobby since she “hit it and quit it.” Meanwhile, Grayson and Laurie still feel guilty about sleeping together without telling Jules. Andy can’t find Bobby so he comes to the bar and sees Bobby decked out in Don Johnson gear.

Ellie tells Jules she wants to have an Ellie/Jules day (which is really an Ellie day) while the guys talk at the bar about the party Bobby wants to throw on his boat to get over what happened with Jules. Jules sees a picture of Ellie’s tennis instructor and thinks he’s super hot (in a funny/creepy Jules sort of way). Grayson lends Bobby the money to have his “booze cruise,” which is essentially beer on his boat in the parking lot. After seeing Ellie’s instructor’s picture, Jules crashes her tennis lesson. We find out that Jules makes fake sexual noises during tennis (is Courtney referring back to Monica’s massage with Phoebe on Friends? Come on now…).

The guys wake up from the booze cruise debauchery while Ellie doesn’t want Jules to come to the tennis lesson. Laurie goes to Travis for advice and how bad she feels (weird?) but I like their brother/sister vibe. Laurie says Travis needs to be her conscience on her shoulder. Andy tells Ellie that Bobby is still “in a bad way” and the three guys go for a Hangover-esque night on the town (camera pictures and everything). They did this already with Jules’ night out. Come on now! (Yes, that is the second time I’ve said that so far. I’m not impressed right now.) At the tennis lesson, Ellie and Jules fight like cats and dogs (Ellie even hits Jules in the back with a tennis ball). When Bobby wants to have another night out, Grayson says he’s done and Andy says he’s in. Grayson is the voice of reason and says Bobby isn’t having fun, he’s in serious trouble and Andy nods in agreement. Ellie and Jules are going back and forth on who is more sexy at tennis when the instructor asks Jules out to dinner. Ellie gets upset and leaves without Jules.

Jules goes to Ellie who calls her a bad friend. Wha?? While Laurie and Travis are “getting her stuff back” from her ex, he comes back and they hide in a closet. Meanwhile, Jules is literally chasing Ellie down the street to get her to talk to her about the “bad friend” remark. She finally gets her and pushes her in a pool – a random neighbor’s pool. Andy goes to visit Bobby on the boat but he doesn’t have the guts to talk to him about the real issues and just sits there. Ellie rolls around on Jules furniture soaking wet, knowing it will annoy her so she walks off and when Ellie says “it’s all about Jules” she comes back and they get into the depth of the argument. Ellie feels Jules is all about herself since her divorce and Jules feels Ellie doesn’t understand how she feels as a divorced woman. Laurie and Travis, stuck in the closet still, are talking about Laurie’s bad decisions and how her decisions are finally starting to bother her – growth! Bobby finally asks why Andy came over and tells him to tell him the truth. Andy finally tells him he’ll get past everything but this isn’t the way. Bobby puts the drinks down and they decide to just go to the boardwalk to have fun. Jules goes to Ellie to apologize to have “Ellie Night” since they didn’t have Ellie Day. They end with a hug. Aw.

Well, for the first official TTC review, I’m sorry to say I did not like this episode. Is it a filler for the future? We understand Grayson and Laurie feel bad and needed to deal with it in their own way and Andy is trying to help Bobby and Grayson deal with their issues, but where did the Ellie jealousy come from? And I’m sorry, as an avid TV watcher, my biggest pet peeve is recycling storylines. Although I have to say I love, LOVE, the Travis/Laurie friendship that’s budding. What did you think? Leave you two cents below!
